Earlier this month, the SD Europe Supporter Liaison Officer team took part in two interesting meetings in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). The week was highlighted by the third and final LIAISE workshop, with a LIAISE exchange visit to the match between Vitória de Guimarães and Sporting Braga, the tenth in a series of 12, taking place as well.

In honour of the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the development of the supporter liaison officer (SLO) role, last month SD Europe announced a new monthly interview featuring various SLOs across the European SLO network. 

In the second edition of this feature, we asked Matijas Loeb, the SLO at Norwegian club Vålerenga IF, to reflect on his role and the future of SLO development. 


What are some of the achievements the SLO department has had at your club?

The SD Europe network is international, connected, and constantly coming together to celebrate supporter involvement. 

Israfans, SD Europe’s Israeli members, is a supporter network having a second community tournament for supporters of various clubs within their membership. 

In this edition of the tournament, Israfans invited AKS Zly and HFC Falke from Poland and Germany respectively, to fly to Israel and participate. This is an exciting development as it is the first time the tournament will involve fans of clubs outside of Israel….

The objective of the fund is to enable the members of the SD Europe network to establish their own projects that further develop supporter involvement.

The SD Europe Fund will see the distribution of €12.000 to its members: €9,000 to fund three projects run by national fan organisations and €3,000 to fund three projects with exchange visits of member-run clubs within the network.

Each project under the SD Europe Fund can fall under the categories of:
Democracy, Cooperation, Solidarity and Sustainability.

As UEFA announced last week, Warsaw-based ASK Zly recently won the UEFA Best Grass Roots Club Award for 2019.

The football club is a member of SD Europe and prides itself on being the first democratically ran, fan-owned football club in Poland. More than 1,000 people of Warsaw celebrated this success in last Sunday’s double match and SD Europe was there to share these moments of happiness with the contributors of this award.

SD Europe

SD Europe is a non-profit organisation meeting the need for meaningful supporter involvement in the running of football clubs and the sustainable development of the game as a whole.

Active in 38 countries across Europe, SD Europe represents grassroots and national supporters organisations, as well as amateur and professional member-run football clubs.

The organisation also supports the implementation of the supporter liaison officer (SLO) licensing requirement on behalf of Uefa, and has observer status on the Standing Committee of the European Convention on Spectator Violence.

SD Europe is currently managing a two-year Erasmus+ project (LIAISE) with the support of the European Commission.
