As the Fifa World Cup gets underway, we did a little research and asked: how well are member-run football clubs or clubs with some element of supporter involvement in their governance structure represented amongst the 32 countries taking part in the competition?

SD Europe was in Bucharest in early May to present on the supporter liaison officer (SLO) role and contribute further to the Council of Europe’s ProS4+ project.

Representatives from the German Football League’s (DFL) Fan Affairs department travelled to London back in April to attend a meeting of Premier League supporter liaison officers (SLOs).
Ben Kandler, who was also involved with SD Europe’s recent LIAISE workshop in Stockholm, and his colleague Eric Roda Gracia were in England for three days, and attended one of the Premier League’s regular SLO meetings as part of their schedule.

Supporters of second division Belgian side Lierse SK have come together in recent weeks to fundraise and raise awareness around the plight of their football club.
The Lier-based club had been up for sale for some months and with wages going unpaid, supporters group GeelZwart joined together with Yellow Black’s Army and the Lierse Supporters Association to create an initiative called Lierse voor Altijd.
